Rent increase 2021

In the beginning of 2021, DUWO’s tenant organizations, including De Eerste Kamer, received a request for advice regarding the annual rent increase of July 2021. In the request for advice, DUWO indicated they would raise part of their rents with a percentage higher than the inflation rate. Legally this is allowed, but in a year after Corona anything but desirable.

Last year, together with the Samenwerkende Huurdersorganisaties (Cooperating Tenants Organizations), we pleaded at DUWO to cancel the annual rent increase. Unfortunately, DUWO did not agree to this. Fortunately, after a motion passed in Parliament, the cabinet has decided to freeze rents in the social sector this year. This means that the annual rent adjustment – which at DUWO takes place on 1 July – will be subject to a maximum rent increase of zero percent in 2021. Your rent will therefore not increase this year. Great!
