The Hague has now an interactive app for students

As of this academic year, The Hague has its own app for students: the Student Radar. It contains everything The Hague has to offer as a student city.

.

The app was the idea of two students at The Hague University of Applied Sciences. Gijs Wolffs and Jasper Mattijssen, first-year students (at the time) of International Business, came up with the app for a school project. They developed the idea with a few fellow students: an app with the student pubs, museums and other culture in the city and useful information about student life, but also with an interactive agenda, in which all events in the neighbourhood can be found, up to and including the most recent student parties.

.

Matching and chatting

But the interactivity goes further than that. “You can immediately see what is going on in your neighbourhood,” says Gijs on De Haagse Actueel, the online news page of The Hague University of Applied Sciences. “But you can also immediately see who from your faculty is going there. Just like with dating app Tinder, you swipe left or right to match an event or location. And you easily get in touch with each other thanks to the chat function.”

.

The app contains many useful information about student life, such as how to apply for a student grant, where you can get a discount on study books, how to find a room as quickly as possible, sports facilities, student associations and many other practical matters. There are also regular, lucrative student discounts for restaurants, cafes and other fun things.

.

Pitch competition

Thanks to a pitch competition held by the municipality of The Hague, the idea ended up on the desks of the platform Student & City, established to promote student life in The Hague. There, the concept was developed further together with the students, after which the app was built. Meanwhile, there is also a Student Radar Foundation, with a board consisting entirely of students. The app is free, also available in English and can be downloaded via the App Store or Google Play.
